gentian, dandelion, fennel seed, orange peel, licorice in distilled grain alcohol
This combination makes for a well-balanced, aromatic update to traditional bitters. The bitter principles in gentian, dandelion and orange peel cause an increase of the production of saliva and gastric secretions. This in turn stimulates the appetite and improves the action of the digestive system in general. By stimulating the action of the stomach, many symptoms associated with weak digestion such as gas, indigestion, bloating and poor appetite can be relieved. Absorption of nutrients also increases and intestinal secretions improve. The licorice adds a touch of sweetness, anti-inflammatory, and soothes and softens the mucous membranes. The Bitters are a digestive stimulant, detoxifier and carminative.
Typical dosage: 1 teaspoon/dropper 2-3 times daily under tongue or in water; children under 12, 1/2 dosage.
