Calendula is a versatile plant which acts on the mucous membranes as an astringent, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antifungal and detoxifier. Externally, it is a wound healer, speeding new tissue growth while also cleansing the wound site. As an atifungal, it can also be used for fungal skin conditions like Athelete's foot, oral thrush or ring worm. Internally, it also heals wounded or infected tissue like mouth or gum infections (excellent as a mouth wash) or peptic ulcers or inflammed tissue associated with gastritis or colitis. Its detoxifying action makes it helpful for systemic skin disorders like eczema or acne.
